What is Instantly MCP?

Instantly MCP is Instantly's official MCP server. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants use tools inside other apps. With Instantly connected, you can ask Claude "pause my campaigns with a reply rate under 2%" or "what were my reply rates this week?" and it works directly in your Instantly account.

Instantly MCP at a glance

Server URL: https://mcp.instantly.ai/mcp (API key in the path, or in an Authorization header)
Sign-in: an Instantly API key
Works with: Claude Desktop, Cursor, n8n and other MCP clients
Tools: 31, across campaigns, leads, email, analytics and sending accounts
Cost: free with your subscription, but your account needs API access

What Instantly MCP can do

Instantly's help center groups the 31 tools like this:

AreaToolsWhat you can ask the AI to do
Campaigns6Create, pause and update campaigns. New campaigns are created as drafts, ready to activate.
Leads11Add leads, move them between campaigns, and manage them
Email5View emails, reply, and verify addresses
Analytics3Pull campaign performance metrics
Accounts6Manage sending accounts, enable warmup, check account health

Example prompts from Instantly's own guide:

  • "What campaigns do I have in Instantly?"
  • "Pause my underperforming campaigns."
  • "Move leads from Campaign A to Campaign B."
  • "Reply to the email from John at TechCo."
  • "Enable warmup for my new account."

How to set up Instantly MCP

First create an API key in Instantly under Integrations, API Keys, Create API Key. Copy it and keep it private: anyone with the key can act on your account.

Claude Desktop, as a custom connector

  1. Open Settings, Connectors and click Add custom connector.
  2. Paste the URL with your key in the path: https://mcp.instantly.ai/mcp/YOUR_API_KEY
  3. Click Add. No restart needed. Test it with "List all my email accounts in Instantly."

Claude Desktop, through the config file

Go to Settings, Developer, Edit Config, add the server with the key in a header, then restart Claude:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "instantly": {
      "url": "https://mcp.instantly.ai/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "YOUR_API_KEY" }
    }
  }
}

Cursor

Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json and restart Cursor:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "instantly": { "url": "https://mcp.instantly.ai/mcp/YOUR_API_KEY" }
  }
}

n8n

Add the MCP Client node, choose Streamable HTTP as the transport, paste the URL with your key, and connect it to your AI agent node.

Which plan you need

Instantly says the MCP server is free with your subscription and that you need "an account with API access." Its pricing page lists API under a shared "API, webhooks, and integrations" row without spelling out the tiers. Several integration providers' docs list Hypergrowth ($97/mo) or higher as the requirement for full API v2 access, so check your plan before you set it up.

Limits to know

  • No lead search: the documented tools work with leads you already have. Finding new leads is part of Instantly's separate Credits product (formerly SuperSearch), not the MCP tool list.
  • Your API key sits in a URL or config file: treat that config like a password and never share it.
  • Confirmations come from the AI, not the server: Instantly's guide says the AI "typically asks for confirmation before major actions," and that most actions can be undone. Nothing on the server side requires a confirmation before launch.
  • No ready-made playbooks: the guide doesn't mention skills or templates, so you write every workflow prompt yourself.
  • Client coverage: the setup guide covers Claude Desktop, Cursor and n8n.

Instantly MCP vs AutoMailer MCP

Both connect with one URL and an API key. The difference is how much of the cold email workflow the assistant can run, and how many checks it passes on the way.

When Instantly MCP is the better fit: your campaigns already live in Instantly and you mainly want Claude to manage them, answer replies and report on results.

When AutoMailer MCP is the better fit: you want Claude to run the whole thing, from finding verified leads to writing a personal first line for each one, spam-checking the sequence and launching from healthy mailboxes.
